Part One
How to Become a Knight

  1. The word “knight” comes form the Anglo-Saxton word for boy, “cniht”
  2. Knights at very bottom of the noble pyramid but also very important
  3. When you want to become a knight its around six years old
    • Lord or king “buys him and trains him to become a knight
    • Knight would be an assistant for a more established knight
    • Help knight with his armor, his horse, his weapons
    • He would learn about the use of each weapons & Do practice battles on a horse
    • Also learn Horsemanship, Archery and fencing
    • Training would end around 16 to 18 years old
    • The knight would now serve the lord or king
    • While serving he would need to be in the army for 40 days of a year or more during a war

  4. Duties
    • Military Duties: A castle guard, The lords or kings “bodyguard”, and to Participate in battle
    • Other Duties: Administrate in justice, Manage his estates (which was the prime source of income), and Practice skills

  1. Courage, justice, nobility, and defense are a couple of descriptions of a good knight
  2. Knight must be courageous: Would risk their life in order to save others, Remain truthful at all times
  3. Justice: Always seek the right path, Always doing the right thing even though others may not think it’s right, and Must not be tempted by other things

  1. Knights are part of the Feudal System
  2. Chivalry
    • How brave or how well a person fights in war
    • Knight handles the horse
    • Protecting the weak
    • Honorable themselves

  3. Middle age heroes
    • Heavy duty metal that shined and gleamed in the sun; ( This is probably why the saying goes “A knight in shinning armor” )
    • Knight had to wear: Chain mail
    • Weapons: Swords, Axes, Daggers, and Sheilds

    • Fought for what he believes in

  4. King Arthur
    • Most famous king and knight
    • Fought along side his army
    • Had Magic sword which he had pulled from a stone named Excalibur

  5. Sir Lancelot
    • Famous knight after King Arthur
    • Lancelot was Arthur’s right-hand knight
    • Tales of Lancelot: Quest for the Holy Grail
    • Noble knight of the Round Table

  6. Richard the Lion Heart
    • He fought in the Third Crusade
    • Commander of his army
    • Fought against the Seljuk Turks
    • Title fits him because they thought he was as brave as a lion: Symbolize his courage
