Part One
How to Become a Knight
- The word “knight” comes form the Anglo-Saxton word for boy, “cniht”
- Knights at very bottom of the noble pyramid but also very important
- When you want to become a knight its around six years old
- Lord or king “buys him and trains him to become a knight
- Knight would be an assistant for a more established knight
- Help knight with his armor, his horse, his weapons
- He would learn about the use of each weapons & Do practice battles on a horse
- Also learn Horsemanship, Archery and fencing
- Training would end around 16 to 18 years old
- The knight would now serve the lord or king
- While serving he would need to be in the army for 40 days of a year or more during a war
- Duties
- Military Duties: A castle guard, The lords or kings “bodyguard”, and to Participate in battle
- Other Duties: Administrate in justice, Manage his estates (which was the prime source of income), and Practice skills
